Four days ago (October 21), an important new book was released by the American publisher Center Street, written by New York Times bestselling author and investigative journalist Lee Smith, under the title:
The China Matrix: The Epic Story of How Donald Trump Shattered a Deadly Pact
The book tells the story of how America’s ruling class sold out the United States to China, and how Donald Trump could still destroy this alliance before it’s too late.
Over the past half century, according to Smith, the American establishment built a partnership with the Chinese Communist Party — one that enriched the elites, hollowed out the middle class, and endangered U.S. national security. They sold out American workers for cheap labor, Wall Street profits, and political power. Then came Donald Trump.
The book reveals how American political and corporate elites conspired with Beijing to reshape the global order — at America’s expense. From Henry Kissinger’s secret dealings with Mao Zedong to Silicon Valley oligarchs cozying up to Xi Jinping, Smith uncovers a network of corruption decades in the making. He also exposes how globalization, Silicon Valley, and the media collectively fueled China’s rise while dismantling America’s industrial base and national security.
Smith recounts how the Trump presidency sought to confront China, regardless of the political and personal costs — from trade wars to TikTok to finance. The book details the struggle between “America First” and the entrenched pro-China elite, and what’s at stake in the next chapter of this global confrontation.
With new revelations about Elon Musk’s growing influence, Joe Biden’s ties to China, and the role of U.S. universities in Beijing’s espionage network, Smith argues that this book is a gripping exposé of the most dangerous alliance in modern history — and of the fight for freedom before time runs out.
At the book’s conclusion, Smith writes:
“It’s hard to see how the Chinese Communist Party could have accepted Trump’s terms.
No more subsidies for its industries?
No more intellectual property theft or forced technology transfers?
No more currency manipulation?
No more trade imbalances worth hundreds of billions of dollars at America’s expense?
These are the weapons the Chinese have used for decades to make China richer and stronger, and America poorer and weaker. The Chinese cannot afford to surrender their weapons of war.
China is not a normal country — it is an entire system. Any deal with Beijing that leaves both sides satisfied would only give the green light for the continued destruction of America over the coming decades.”
The problem, Smith emphasizes, lies not only in the trade system — but more importantly in the political system that grew out of it, transforming American society, politics, and culture.
President Trump is quoted as saying that the American system is a “venture system” — one that has become deeply corrupted and very different from what it was meant to be. It’s a great system, he says, but one that has become “unbelievably corrupt.”
Smith traces this corruption to its roots: Kissinger’s secret trip and Nixon’s summit with Mao, which gave the Chinese early proof that Americans were willing to humiliate themselves to establish relations with a brutal regime.
Thus, protecting peace and advancing the prosperity of the Americans who elected him, Trump believes, means continuing the confrontation with the Chinese Communist Party — not seeking compromise with it.
